Question about MLA citation?

Not really about MLA but more like a what should I do. I took some information on what I thought was a website with plain text giving information on a particular subject turns out to be an essay from someone at another college and now I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put down the citation he used for the info or for his essay. Or maybe both. Thanks.
