I saw one of our professor and I said "Hi, How are you doing". Was it bad?

"How are you doing?" is a casual greeting for friends. In the academic world you are not equals, so a more formal greeting is expected. "How are you," is less familiar than "how are you doing." "Good afternoon" is better.
